Excellent idea!

I'd like to claim the credit, but I got that tip from someone else on this forum ages ago. Tying the lines together, fitting a decent set of telltales and putting a bit of cargo mat under the seat are the big three things that greatly improve the AI experience at little or no cost IMHO (none of them invented by me) .

Being new to the board I was curious what you meant by "cargo mat" under the seat? The tell tales surely need replaced and I'm still not sure how I'll reconfigure the furling/out haul lines.

This is how I do the lines:


The loop in the sheet line is permanent. I tie the reefing line to it (I use i few half hitches).

When it's time to pack up for travel, this is where it lives so the sheet line keeps out of the way and not loose.

Mike, a cargo mat is a piece of rubber mesh, available at hardware stores. It stops the seat slipping around. Here's a picture Stringy posted some time ago:

I have the same setup, except I have it screwed to the seat by the seat pegs.
Hobie's Black Beauty telltales are excellent, but you have to buy a pack of 12 (still cheap).
Kayaking Bob's post above just about says it all with how to set up the lines.

Thanks Chris and while on the subject of seat improvements I must thank you for the triglide info you previously posted about.( a Yakass idea I think?)
For those with the seat back slipping loose, adding a triglide buckle (in pic top right) or better yet a camlock style buckle (easier to adjust) to the strap hook end locks the loose strap and prevents the seatback slipping. Simply unthread the seat strap, thread the webbing through the extra buckle and then rethread back through the seat. Adjust your seat, feed the slack back through the extra buckle and lock it.



A couple of other must do's:
-remove the spare aka brace bolt and replace it with a loop of cord/bungee around the aka (as posted by Reconlon)

-stuff a small piece of pool noodle into the mast receiver when transporting the kayak to prevent the possibility of the mast retainer balls getting lost. This happened on my 09 model so it is still a possible problem. Also check the screws are tight in the bottom of the mast receiver.
