I just bought a few fast shackles for my jib, and another sailor mentioned that they might not have the same strength as the regular shackles. Any thoughts?

The breaking strength should be loisted in any sales information on them. If for standing rigging (holding up the mast) you should be most cautious.

I've used Quick Pins for my jib for years and they have always worked great. You should be sure to maintain them though. I will spray them with WD-40 at the beginning and end of the sailing season. (Winter in Michigan)....plus take extra time if you are sailing in saltwater or if the pin falls in the sand.

I checked with the manufacturer and the sheer load was higher than the standard shackles.

As long as the pin stays in they should work great, and are so much easier to use with my big fingers...

Hey Craig

If you have not and can put a lanyard one the pin definitely do it. I had one come out on me. Fortunately it was on a leash!

in my experience the best type of shackle to use in most situations on a sailboat is a captive shackle, that is one which the pin will not fall out of even while open, this is a big help while in a hurry to rig, saving many trips back and fourth to the nearest source of shackles. they are also much faster to open and close and because they snap shut they are less likely to be shaken open by vibrations and whatnot and i have never seenone break when used properly.
