When you install the cam cleat on your mast do you need a saddle to distribute the load?

I went ahead and put the two cheek blocks and cam cleat on the mast, then I went to rig the jib halyard through the blocks and find out that with the old halyard system the top cheek block is not used.Is the new halard system only designed for the aussi jib system. Is there away to rig the old system to configure to this new set up?

Go to the Murry catalog,http://www.murrays.com/archive/50-51.pdf, here you'll find the upper forstay. It's a double pigtail which allows you to hook up the halyard to 1 side and the jib to the other. Part # is 02-0244-02A Aussie @$30.00

Just wondering if you saw this diagram (3rd one on page 10). I bought the new system and am in the process of setting it up. Didn't realize until I saw this diagram that I need a block on the top of the jib. Heading to dealer to get that today. Not sure if I like this system or the old one better. How bout you?

Regards,

Dan

I posted this message a few months ago, when I was constructing the new jib haylard system. Thus far, I have loved the setup:

Harken 2655 ($21.00 at marine.com)

and Harken 2637 ($18 also at marine.com)

Plus the Aussie forestay(pigtail attached at upper swivel) from saltydogmarine.com ($30)

Jeffrey,

This is too funny. I never look at profiles but today I did. I guess I didn't steer you in the wrong direction. Glad that 14 I checked out for you in Northfield is still floating. Need your E mail please. Heard from Cousin Jess that you'll be in Margate soon. Hope you can come 16 sailing with me and help me figure out this new jib halyard system. I've been rigging it the old way for so many years, that this threw me for a loop (pardon the pun). It also didn't help matters that when i bought the new halyard that the dealer in O.C. didn't tell me I needed a block to attach to the jib.

Funny crossing paths with you on the web and not on the beach.

Dan

Hello, Dan. This is quite humorous. The 14 has done quite well and has been mostly on Lake Erie. We added a 16 to our fleet last fall and have sailed that all summer north of Pittsburgh. I will be at the shore on August 7th through the 21st and would be more than willing to assist you with the new jib halyard system. Once you see how it works, it is much easier (4:1 ratio) and heavier duty than the old system.

It is my understanding that in exchange for a sail or two on your Hobie, you will receive a blueberry crisp from my cousin.

Send an email when you get the chance:
