Even though the wind was a bit ordinary last weekend everything else was spot on so I managed to get the chores done and go for a race across the lake. Just thought I'd share some photos with you. I have been looking around at waterproof cameras but while I'm making up my mind on which one, I bought myself a waterproof camera bag and gave it a go. If you're thinking of buying one, they are a bit awkward to use and almost impossible to change camera setting without opening the bag. But for under $30, I'm pretty happy with the results and as a bonus it will fit any of the digital cameras from home.

I usually launch in at Rathmines park on the western side of the lake. Sandy weedy bottom with easy access.

Travelling east to Marks Point about 5kms away.

Not a bad lunch spot hey!

Kangaroo, VB, and strawberrys the size of tomatoes, all helped finish off a top day.

Nice pics Slaughter. 8)
I thought the 3rd shot down could have been taken in the Bahamas instead of Lake Macquarie (until I noticed the power station stacks in the background? )
What a great looking lunch spot.
You certainly know how to pack a great lunch! :)

They're kinda like emu fillets, but a bit gamier.

Yeah Chris, I spoke with Stringy yesterday about locking in a date for the 'Armada' on the Lake. I can virtually make it any weekend but if it's a mid week I just need a few days notice. How bout we start now with a date and see how it pans out. Say the 6th or 13th Sept. Sail out from Rathmines park across to Marks Point. Then follow the drop-over down to Pulbah Island for lunch. Then if time and wind permit west into Myuna Bay and follow the coast around Wangi point and back to Rathmines.

All those interested are welcome. The seed has been planted.

I've just put in for a few weeks leave from that weekend. Best be penciling me in.
Someone else can be on call for a while :)

I tried to look up the launching point but couldn't quite make it out from Google earth. Well I can find the general area but not the actual park.

There might be a bit of a "thing" happening late Sept as well. Keep your eyes peeled.

Rokraider, Kangaroo is something you either love or hate. Our family all love it and eat more roo than any other meat. When cooked properly it's as tender as a good steak but if it isn't cooked right, the only good use for it is to plug holes in your AI. For me they are too nice an animal to shoot so I only eat the ones that I've hit with the car on the way to work. Hard little buggers to hit though.

Good one CGM. Looks like 2 of us, so far, are confirmed for either the first or 2nd Sunday in Sept. Howz everyone else placed ? Closer to the date I'll attach some Google Earth maps ( it will take me that long to work out how to do it ). In the meantime if you get Rathmines up on Google Maps, drive down Dorrington Rd towards the water, turn left into Stirling St, then the first right 100m later to that car park. The trees in front are in the first photo I took above.

Hmm, I think my family might have some ideas about Sunday 6th - it's Fathers' Day. I could do Sunday 13th, but would have to leave by about 3pm. I don't suppose Saturday 12th is any good???

Yep, that's the car park thanks Chris. I usually drive around the car park barriers over to the waters edge ( as per the photos ) to unload and set up. Then park back in the car park so that I don't find some infringemnet notice when I get back. Me and my windsufer mate have combed the bottom and virtually cleared out all those razor shellfish in that area. They seem to multiply pretty quick in the lake. Kick'n one of them can really stuff up your day.

I just got word from the boss that all staff with more than 8 weeks holiday up their sleeves needs to start taking them. So with the 14+ that I have, I plan to be out on the water a fair bit in the next few months. Tassy here I come.

The 12th sounds just as good to me. So shall we all make it the 12th everyone ?

Hey, are you going to drive down with the boat? I always thought Lake St Clair would be a buzz in the AI. 12th's good for me :D.

Thanks Chris. My guess had me in the ball park.
I've heard some rumours about a bit of a get together. No dates, no location and still very much unconfirmed. 8) I'm keeping the end of September a little flexible at this stage.

Slaughter, you've even got more holidays than me! I've only got a measly 10 weeks. HR's on my back too so I'm going to be getting in some AI time :D

The 12th sounds good to me.
