Anybody else out there sail off Hatteras or the lower outer banks? Where do you launch? Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave,

I see this is a late reply to your post.

I usually sail in Avon, NC. Usually renting a house on the sound side. But there is Windsurfing Hatteras (they rent Waves and PWCs) and Outer Banks Expeditions (Kayak Rentals) that have water access. I bet for a small fee, they would let you store a boat there for a week if you asked. If you are willing to setup and breakdown, you could go out of Canadian Hole.

In Rodanthe, there is a race every year put on by Fleet 100 (NC) at Camp Hatteras. They have a ramp and storage area there as well. The race was in August and is a lot of fun. A bunch of us from Virgina (Fleet 32) tend to go down for it. Other rental companies are also in Rodanthe/Salvo/Waves with Sound access

Love sailing the sound! Good winds and low chop.

The sound is a great place to sail!(except the shoals!) I usually launch at Canadian Hole, or the soundside at Hatteras-The parking lot's not there anymore, but since Isabel theres good access. I keep the boats behind my house, but my water access is a 5 foot high pier- kind of hard to get my16 off of by myself- the 14's no sweat, though. I'm wondering about some of the boats i see regularly out there too! If you see a 16 with Tsunami sails # 82453 , or a 14 with Boomer 40381 thats me! Hope to seeyou out there! Dave

With the kids in school, I don't get down but a week or so a year anymore. Most of my sailing is now on the Chesapeake bay, near the mouth of the Rappahanock River. I keep the boat ther pretty much year round, but always drag it down when I head to HI.

For the last two years I have done the Camp Hatteras race. You should make sure you come out next year. Up in Duck, there are also some formal and non formal events at NorBanks sailing as well.

I am on my second 16 with the Boomer sails. Still one of the best looking sails they came out with in my opinion!

Do you guys know of any good places to launch and sail up in the Corolla area? I plan to be there in late August.
