Is changing the color of my boat with gel coat a bad idea?

I just bought it. It's orange. Has a few sports of pretty bad gel coat damage. I was thinking of patching the holes and then re-spraying the boat with gel and clear.

Would using a white gel be difficult or look bad due to the original orange? Should I stick with orange?

If you sand the boat, prime it then spray the gel then the orange shouldn't show through. You might have to spray 2 coats of gel though. Then clear the hulls. It should come out nice. Good luck! Happy Sailing

There's no need to use any 'clear' anything over gel. This might help.

My goal is to empower people to do their own repairs correctly without wasting a bunch of money. The products that I used in this video are the absolute correct things to use and coincidentally they are the least expensive. These boats were made out of polyester, so it's best to use polyester products.
