I was fishing over a local reef at high tide when I saw an outside wave coming in. Good thing the Quest is a fast kayak because I needed all of it to punch through this wave.

Awesome video! How did you get it--a head-mounted camera? Also how big was the wave--it looked to be at least 6 feet?

The camera is mounted on a mast behind the seat, about 4' above the deck of the boat. A really wide angle lens is needed for this kind of shot. The wave might be about four feet or so when it breaks on the beach. The wide angle lens of the camera flattens the perspective a little so it looks smaller than it really is.
In an earlier post, I mentioned I had the Quest at 5.6 mph. I'm pretty sure I was going faster than that trying to beat this wave. I barely made it over.

Ronbo... Great video! Thanks for posting. The mast mounted camera gives a terrific perspective to the viewer. We all see a lot of still images posted and that's always better than just text but your videos are far better. I hope to see more RonboProductions clips in the future!! :D

By the way, have you gotten into any of the recent YT action off La Jolla? I haven't had my Outback out recently due to a broken leg and that's just a little frustrating. My advice: Avoid Motorcycle Surfing!!!

I'm waiting for the windy, cooler weather to go away before I make a pilgrimage to LJ. If I drive all the way down there, I want to stay out all day.
I was out today in Carlsbad, probably caught about 30 fish. The fishing has been really good the past couple times, beach deserted, plenty of parking with no swell and surfers. That will change at the end of the week because there is a large swell coming, probably through the weekend. Surf launching may be out for a few days.
I did get some good fishing footage today so I'll have a look at it and put up another fishing video. The overhead shot is OK, but I've got another angle I think I like a little better.
Too bad about your leg. I love motorcycles, owned street and dirt bikes most of my life(including a mint 1968 Triumph Bonneville). Too dangerous around here for street bikes and you have to drive a long way for dirt bikes, so while I'm here in SoCal, it's ocean sports and mountain biking only.

Yeah... sign of a spammer. I tossed another one earlier today that said "Great Video". That one caught 2 today!
