I have an older 18' Hobie that I recently purchased and I've been fixing it up. The base plate in the mast is broken and I've been trying to get it out in order to replace with a new one. However, I think a previous owner may have used some sort of glue (maybe epoxy) when they put the base plate into the mast. Does anyone have an idea on how I may be able to remove the old plate? Is there any chemical that I could soak the end of the mast in that might dissolve the epoxy glue that they might have used? Thanks.

You should be able to hammer it out, even if it is bonded in with a sealant. Use a big blade screw driver to wedge into the base and hammer it out. May have to work around the base as it comes out.

I have mucho experience removing epoxied comptips from masts.

You wont get away without some level of destruction if epoxy is involved. The last time I had to deal with epoxy in a mast fitting, it involved a chain, a 1/2" line a big tree and my 6000lbs SUV.

you might try using a heat gun to losen the epoxy...or even propane torch....obviously dont hold the flame too long a any one place....
