Many times questions are better answered with a video rather than words, so here are a few Hobie Pro Angler fishing videos for you to enjoy. I hope they answer some of your questions concerning fishing from the Hobie Pro Angler. We had a blast catching these fish and I hope that these videos give you inspiration to get out there and catch some yourself. That is if you're not already doing it...

Enjoyed the videos!!

However, I have a question..............does everyone who fishes for big fish leave their mirage drive in and fins down???

I am a new Hobie owner and have little mirage drive experience.

I have fished with many Hobie owners and have seen on three occasions where the fish has gone under the kayak and wrapped the line about the fins...........doing enough damage to require complete replacement.

What is everyone's experience in this area???

First... you can simply push one pedal forward so the fins are tight against the bottom of the hull.

Second... Complete replacement... of the drive? The only thing that can happen is you foul the line in the fins. At most you would replace a fin IF it got cut and IF it was enough to cause damage.

Well, I meant complete replacement of the fins.......still not exactly cheap.

And to clarify, the three time I witnessed the damage the fisherman was in an adventure. I have never seen the outbacks or revolutions have the same problems.

Since about 80% of my offshore fishing is while I am anchored, I plan on just pulling the drive out. For some reason, while sitting on saw horses on dry land, my fins are not flat against the hull when locked down. Maybe I am not putting enough pressure on them.

However I probably will troll more with the peddle drive and hope to hookup on fish while trolling. Don't quite know how I will handle the situation if I am fighting a fish with the drive in place...........try to lock and hope for the best.

Well, I've been using both the PA and Outback and I've never considered taking the drive out when fishing. Most of my fishing is moving. I'm using the drive. The only thing I'd think is "you're over thinking" the issue. Get it, go fish and enjoy. Buy a spare set of fins in case you injure one. I've had an extra rip in one of mine now for the third season. Then, if you do remove the drive, make sure it's very securely tethered. There's many of them at the bottom I understand. I think they're safer right where they belong. Good luck and good fishing.

I've only had 1 fin messed up while fishing ( over 10 years in mirage yaks) had a king shoot under the boat getting away from the gaff. The braided line cut the fin, didn't notice until later that day when we got in, fin still worked as usual.

Most of the time when a fish goes under the boat I put my rod tip down, just like if a fish were to run under a boat. The friction of the line on the side of the kayak is enough to mess up the drag ratio causing the line to break.

Taking a spare fin with you isn't a bad idea if your worried about it, they are less than $30.
