My 02 Getaway was showing its years with accumulated grime. Over the years I have made half hearted cleaning attempts with assorted marine, green and car cleaning products with very limited results. This year I tried Marine Spray Nine (www.spraynine.com) with impressive results. I was asked by a boat owner that stores his boat near mine if I had a new boat. When I said no. He said but you had that old boat for years. I assume that indicated that my cleaning standards had been questionable for years and that the Spray Nine had done a pretty remarkable job. Interestingly while it cleaned the hulls almost completely with one spray on and wipe off application, it did nothing even after repeated applications on the rudders. The rudders now look so bad by comparison that I will have to make an effort to find an effective cleaner for the rudders.

Matt

Will a high performance carbon fiber rudder for one of the bigger Hobies work for a Getaway? I would rather upgrade than scrub.

On an '02... pre-Ez Loc system using the aluminum castings? Yes, you can mount the Carbon blades.

Before replacing your blades, I would try cleaning them with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Not sure if it scratches or not, but it sure takes stains off of almost everything.

When i bought my wave the rudders were in sad shape. I used a scotch brite pad and spraynine they turned out really well. Not sure if your rudders are made from the same material but worth a shot.

I have an 04 Getaway and want to do a better job of cleaning it up. Going to try Simple Green and or Spray Nine on the hull, But I think I need something else for the Rudders like the original poster. What are the rudders made of? I’ve heard that other hobie rudders are made of Lexan, but I don’t think the Getaway/Wave are Lexan. I read one place that they are Nylon which looks possible. Just wondering if Bleach is safe on the rudders or if Hobie has another recommended product?

Thank you.
